1.   Things to Do

• Trekking

The 17 kilometers trek begins from a village, Govindghat. The path is surrounded by attractive views of the flowing waterfalls, dense forest, and the beautiful peaks of the Himalayas. 14 kilometers from Govindghat, you will find a place named Ghangaria. It is a small village and also the last place where humans lives, on your way to the Valley of Flowers National Park in Uttarakhand. 

• Journey

After climbing the altitude of 4,329 meters, you will find Sri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara which is also called the ‘lake of snow’. Tourists also rent helicopters to reach the Sikh temple at Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand. It is one of the most holy temples in the Himalayas and admired greatly by the Sikh community. The pure Hemkund Lake is surrounded by seven ice peaks and offers a great reflection of the wonderful mountain ranges and the attractive glaciers that makes the trek to the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand a lot more enjoyable. It is a calm, peaceful and scenic spot that fascinates many tourists from all across the world. Also, this place holds special worth for Hindu peoples. It is believed the Valley of Flowers is where Hanuman brought the magical herb to save Lakshman as defined in Ramayana. Many people continue to believe that ‘Sanjeevani’, the herb still grows in the Valley of Flowers.

• Village Walks

Ghangaria is the last place where people still live, before you reach the Valley of Flowers. It is also the Sangam of Ganga and Pushpawati River, known as Lakshman Ganga. Most of the time it is covered in snow. It is recommended that you plan your trip in the months of May and September. Yet, your trekking will be worth it when you have a look at this picturesque and peaceful village. It is a great place for mountaineering, or to witness nature.

• Witness Mysterious Flowers

The Valley of Flowers is a hidden gem of Uttarakhand. With more than 600 species of flowers like orchids, blue poppy, sediams, calendula, Geranium, Marigold, Himalayan rose Daisies, zinnia, and petunia, you will find yourself in a natural flower arrangement. That’s why this is the reason that the site has received the title of ‘Centre of Plant Diversity’. Apart from this, you will also see a variety of bright butterflies waving around the flowers.

• Bird Watching

For those who are interested in bird watching, the Valley of Flowers will be the right place! Home to mysterious birds and Indian Himalayan birds, this place introduces you to a lot of new birds like the Himalayan golden eagle, Himalayan snowcock, Snow partridge, Snow pigeon, Himalayan Monal, and Sparrow.

The valley is reachable only between the months of June and October and the best time to visit the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand is between July and mid-August when it is in full bloom. Here is what you can see in these months:

• June

When the snow starts to melt and the seeds of the previous year’s plants start to grow you can see small sprouts that will soon turn into colorful and lively flowers. You can also catch a sight of some beautiful flowers like Reinwardtia Indica, Oxalis Corniculata, Viola Pilosa, Fragaria Nubicola, Thymus Linearis, Wild rose, Gage Lutea, and Marsh Marigold in the Valley of Flowers in June. 

• July
