Sajnakhali Wildlife Sanctuary is a 362-square-kilometre (140 sq mi) part in the northern Sundarban delta in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India. It is mostly mangrove brush, forest and swamp. It was set up as a sanctuary in the year of 1976. It is home to a rich population of different species of wildlife, such as water fowl, heron, pelican, spotted deer, rhesus macaques, wild boar, tigers, water monitor lizards, fishing cats, otters, olive ridley turtles, crocodiles, batagur terrapins, and migratory birds.

Sundarban Mangroves:

The Sundarban Mangroves eco section on the coastline forms the seaward edging of the delta and is the world's largest mangrove ecology, with 20,400 square kilometres (7,900 sq mi) of a total area covered. The principal mangrove type Heritiera fomes is locally famous as sundri or sundari. Mangrove forests are not home to a great variety of plants. They have a thick covering, and the bushes are mostly seedlings of the mangrove plants. In addition the sundari, other tree species in the forest contain Avicennia, Xylocarpus mekongensis, Xylocarpus granatum, Sonneratia apetala, Bruguiera gymnorhiza, Ceriops decandra, Aegiceras corniculatum, Rhizophora mucronata, and Nypa fruticans palms. Twenty-six of the fifty broad mangrove species found in the world develop well in the Sundarban region. The commonly identifiable vegetation categories in the dense Sundarban mangrove forests are salt water mixed forest, and brackish water varied forest, littoral forest, wet forest and wet alluvial grass forests. The Bangladesh mangrove vegetation of the Sundarban differs greatly from other non-deltaic coastal mangrove jungles.
