Kurseong is a subdivision of Darjeeling district and is also known as the land of white orchids. Kurseong is a hill station located close to Darjeeling and is famous for its waterfalls, temples, Buddhist gompas and other beautiful places.
Located on the Siliguri Darjeeling Highway Kurseong is a quite hill station. During the monsoon season the rain makes it more gorgeous as the town receive non-stop rain for days. The rains are in fact much needed for the flora and fauna of the place. White orchids are found here in abundance on the Hills slopes. Other than that, you can find lush green forest and tea plantations too. At sunset you can see the most beautiful colours in the sky. You can also see the British remnants in the form of churches and schools in the town. This small hill town makes it and perfect escape from the busy city life.
From some parts of Kurseong you will get magnificent views of mountain Kanchenjunga, Kabru and Jannu and the rivers Teesta and Mahanadi flowing down the lower planes and meadows.
Another attraction here is the toy train tracks along the road. The whistling sound of the steam engine is often heard from the local household and you can come out to see the mini train running on the roads of this small city.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum, Kurseong Overview

Once a short-term house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the museum is placed in Netaji’s elder brother's house. It has pictures, documents and articles connected to Netaji in his house locked up by the British. Today, the museum also acts as an organization for Himalayan Language & Culture Studies and offers outstanding vision of the valley.

How to reach Kurseong

Custom is located in Darjeeling district and is on national highway 110 which is also called the hill Cart Road that originates from Siliguri and goes all the way to Darjeeling. Question is located midway to Darjeeling and you can easily stay here for a couple of nights when you plan a trip to Darjeeling or around it. The altitude of Kurseong is 4864 feet and therefore the climate for most part of the year also remains cold however, it can get very cold during the winters.
From Siliguri the distance to cursive is 51 km and from New Jalpaiguri station the distance is about 57 km. From New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri the public transports would usually take the hill cards Road which takes around 2 hours to reach. You can also opt for Airways, in that case Bagdogra airport is a distance of 60 km from Kurseong. From Bagdogra the you can reach Kurseong via Matigara or Rohini in just 2 hours.

Hanuman Tok
Hanuman Tok is a Hanuman temple where a huge statue of Hanuman has been elected in the high-altitude location which also one of the best viewpoints of Darjeeling. On a clear day you get magnificent view of the cursed town on the slopes of the mountains and the snow pics of Kanchanjunga from here.
Eagles Craig
It is a lovely park with a small garden with statues of dragons that resembles the Jurassic Park. It also has an observation tower to give you a view of the surrounding area.
Goddapahar Viewpoint
It is another view point located in the Giddhapahar area that offers the view of the valley and Kanchanjunga.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum
This is the place where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was kept in house captivity by the British during 1933 to 1935.

The Chimney Heritage Park is located near the chimney village and the park was created centering around a large chimney which is only the remnants of a heritage house that was built during the British colonial days.
Ambootia Tea Estate and Shiv Temple
It is a tea garden located 10 km below Kurseong town. You can take managers permission and go inside the tea estate and also the tea processing factory. There is a temple of lord Shiva in the middle of the state which is the main place of worship for the local villages. It is believed by the villagers that the idol of lord Shiva is alive that was placed here.
Kumai Studio
One of the most popular stores in cursive is the Kumai Studio which is located on the Hill Cart Road. This is a large store which originated as a photo studio however later diversified to a gift and souvenir store but is also remained as a photo studio. You can get instant photos you are at reasonable rates and also take some gifts back at home like decorative items, wallet, stationery items, books, dolls, soft toys, toy cars, glass item like vases and of course photographs of Himalayas.

Best time to visit Kerseong

Due to low altitude questions temperature remains temperate for most of the year the average temperature where is from 10 °C in January and goes up to an average of 23 °C in August and again falls to 10 degree Celsius in December. August is usually the warmest month when the maximum temperature can touch 25 °C while January is the coolest. The minimum temperature can drop to 5 °C. Monsoon is heaviest in July when the rain fall is at an average of 896 mm while December is the driest time with almost no rainfall. The best time to visit Kurseong is in March to mid-June and October to December. It will be a great idea to avoid Kurseong during the monsoon. If you are travelling to Kurseong during summer you need light woolens and if you are coming here during the winters than you need heavy woolens particularly for the nights and early mornings.
